As herbalists, we spend a lot of time outdoors- often far from western medical care. Whether you are also an herbalist, a caretaker, or just someone who wants to be prepared when a health crisis occurs, learning the basics of first aid can make all the difference. Combine western first aid with herbal knowledge, and you will have an amazing toolkit for caring for yourself and those around you. One of our primary goals in this overview of basic First Aid and Herbal Care is to instill confidence in our students to make decisions on what care is needed. We will cover when it is essential to seek higher care (aka the doctor or hospital) and what first aid and/or herbs you can provide in the meantime or while in recovery.

This is a class that has often been requested by our students and we are thrilled to offer it in person, with a panel of experienced teachers.

Participants will receive CPR certification through Emergency Care Safety Institute (ESCI).

INSTRUCTORS
Ginger Webb has been practicing herbalism for over 25 years, as a community herbalist, clinical herbalist, herbal medicine maker, wild plant lover, botanist, and teacher. She makes and sells herbal medicine through her company Texas Medicinals, and has trained scores of people to be herbalists through her programs at Sacred Journey School of Herbalism. Her mission is to keep alive the craft of herbalism through modeling the age-old wisdom of being in right relationship with the plants, and she teaches her students to be stewards of the Earth and the plants first, and to make medicine only when the plants wholeheartedly provide consent. After living in Austin for over 30 years, Ginger now lives on wild land in Wimberley, Texas. Ginger counts many teachers along her herbal path, most notably Michael Moore (1999 SWSBM graduate) and Sage Maurer (Gaia School of Healing & Earth Education).

Adam Russell is an ecologist, explorer, and educator. For a decade he was an educator for Remote Medical International where he has worked with human and land health in remote locations around the world since 2006. He deployed in Nepal with Team Rubicon to support the disaster relief efforts after the 2015 earthquake. He is currently a certified Remote Emergency Medical Technician with a particular passion for land regeneration in central Texas. He seeks to build a knowledge base of how we can prepare for the worst and then plan for the best case scenario.

Lauren Peterson is an herbalist,  Juniper-lover, Sacred Journey School of Herbalism Admin, and owner of White Deer Apothecary. Lauren’s passion for plants grew from her desire to deepen her connection with the natural world and nurture relationships that allow healing to take place. Her favorite places to be are outdoors, in the kitchen, and on the dance floor.
