ABOUT THE COURSE:
This Level 1 course is what we refer to as the “FULL COURSE” – all the online classes (30 total) and all the outdoor classes (9 weekends total) combined into one, running from September to May. We have designed the Level 1 program in such a way that you can take (1) the full course, (2) just the online, or (3) just the outdoor.
Level 1 “Foundations of Herbalism” involves both experiential and intuitive learning as well as lecture style and scientific observation out in the field. Ginger is passionate about connecting people with herbs and other wild plants, and is dedicated to empowering a generation of new herbalists. No prior herbal experience is necessary to join us on this journey — it is both a wonderful place to begin your studies and an excellent way to deepen your knowledge if you have already dabbled in herbalism.
This course consists of two sections, taught by Ginger Webb and various wonderful guest teachers and herbal apprentices throughout the year. This FULL COURSE option is to take both sections simultaneously for a fully immersive experience (and a considerable tuition discount!). However, if it works better with your schedule and budget, you can take one section at a time, over the course of two years.
Level 1: “ONLINE Foundations of Herbalism” — Tuesday Night Zoom Classes (30 classes, 75 hours total)
These live, interactive lecture-style Zoom classes focus on foundational herbal concepts and tools for understanding plant medicines, experiential learning, basic physiology, and building a materia medica of over 100 herbs. Herbs are organized using the chakra system — we begin at the Root Chakra in the fall and work our way up throughout the course, naturally weaving together our knowledge of both the physical and energetic actions of herbs.
Herbal Goodie Box & Printed Class notebook:
This pre-made Herbal Goodie Box with 75 herbs and a printed copy of the class notebook is an essential part of participating in our online classes. It is a separate cost and cannot be included in payment plans since you will receive it before classes begin. Payment for the Herbal Goodie Box is due by August 31st, 2023.
*If you are interested in taking only the ONLINE class at this time, you can find those details here: https://gingerwebb.com/classes/level-1-online-foundations-of-herbalism-tuesday-nights-only-sept-2023-april-2024/?
Level 1: OUTDOOR Wild Texas Herbalism (approximately 125 hours)
These in-person, outdoor weekends focus on our local wild & cultivated plants in the field. We spend our time primarily outdoors in Austin and the surrounding areas, immersing ourselves in our botanical bioregion while learning directly from the plants. Our main focus is the practical applications of local plant medicine, including identification, how & when to harvest, medicinal preparations, and sitting with the plants. A wonderful aspect of this in-person course is the sense of community created throughout our time together, with both the humans in the course and the land & plants we interact with. The outdoor program also includes guest instructors teaching herb cultivation, hydrosols & basics of aromatherapy, flower essences, and fermentation.
*If you are interested in taking only the OUTDOOR class at this time, you can find those details here: https://gingerwebb.com/classes/level-1-wild-texas-herbalism-sept-2023-may-2024/?

We give a paper certificate for Level 1 completion stating the number of hours of the completed course and general topics covered. Attendance of at least 80% of classes and a final presentation are required to officially complete the course and receive a certificate. Class hours with Sacred Journey School of Herbalism are recognized by the American Herbalists’ Guild and other renowned herbal schools. Feel free to contact us with questions on this topic.
