TXA note from Ginger:
Desert Rhatany is a shrub; the species that grows in central Texas is a sprawling plant. I love stumbling upon them because they are not widespread and they only seem to be noticeable when in flower. Rhatany is an astringent, but to be honest, astringency in plants is easy to come by; better to use something more widespread and common if looking for some medicinal astringency. Leave pretty little Rhatany be.
