YOU: You have been studying herbs for a while now, taking them yourself, making medicine and sharing it with friends and family. Sometimes when people ask you for herbal advice, you feel capable of suggesting something helpful. The trouble comes when someone asks you to help with a more complicated set of health issues. Trying to provide a quick answer to a complicated health concern is a set-up for frustration (at best) for everyone. You need to hear more about their concerns in a focused way. This is when you suggest scheduling a designated time to get together and talk – also known as a consultation. Now the question is, how do you conduct a consultation?
In this course, you will learn how to conduct a consultation using the tools that Ginger learned from Michael Moore: a constitutional approach to understanding someone’s physiology, an intake form specific to this constitutional approach, and a comprehensive list of herbs to draw from. Michael Moore’s system of Constitutional Physiology addresses sub-clinical deficiencies and excesses in human organ systems. The intake form that he created allows a clinician to quickly suss patterns of deficiency/excess in a client, and includes an herbal guide that suggests herbs that will work in formulation for that person. You will also learn Ginger’s herbal tincture drop-dose technique for confirming specific herbs for the client as well as her custom formulations process. The class is a unique opportunity to learn by observing Ginger, in the role of herbal practitioner, and to learn by conducting consultations yourself.
Each class will begin with Ginger conducting a consultation with a client: this is called Herbalist Clinical Theater. Clients will be chosen from the students in the class. Afternoons will be spent learning new concepts, discussing methodologies, discussing the nuts and bolts of building an apothecary for clinical work, defining scope of practice and legalities, and eventually reviewing the consultations you do when you return home. Students will be expected to conduct one consultation between the 2 class weekends in May.
TUITION INCLUDES:
*The prerecorded videos have been prepared by Ginger to explain Michael Moore’s system of Constitutional Physiology and consultation process. These videos are prerequisites for the course and will be made available upon tuition payment. You will need to watch them prior to our first class.
TAUGHT BY: Ginger Webb
Ginger Webb has been deeply immersed in the study of herbs in central Texas for 30+ years and has supported hundreds of people to reconnect with the plant world as medicine. Since 2012, Sacred Journey School of Herbalism has offered in-depth herbalist programs to interested folks and new herbalists.
The school reflects Ginger’s love of the plant world; her experience studying with herbalist Michael Moore; her years of medicine-making experience; her assertion that herbalism is the people’s medicine; and her belief we all have access to the healing wisdom of the plant world simply because we are alive and share consciousness with all life.
What our students are saying:
"I have been in herbal classes over the last four years and have many wonderful mentors. However Sacred Journey's approach to clinical studies is very personalized and Ginger's hands-on approach has helped closed gaps in my herbal studies by teaching how plants and people can come together distinct to each individual. To put it simply, this is not cookie cutter herbalism. If you are looking for a platform to help anchor your studies, this is the place for you, it's been eye-opening journey!"
– Sarah Niedzialkowski, Herbalist Clinical Theater student 2023
"If you're thinking about signing up for Ginger's Clinical Theater classes, I highly recommend them! Ginger has a joyful energy and creates a supportive environment where she boosts our confidence in our budding abilities without ever making us feel inadequate. Seeing Ginger interact with clients, observing her herb selection process, and learning about drop dosing, has been invaluable in my preparation to eventually practice on my own."
-Aubrey Packham, Herbalist Clinical Theater student 2023
"Sacred Journey School of Herbalism is more than a school. It is a portal into a world full of love, life, spirit, learning and community. The introduction to the plant world that Ginger Webb and Lauren Peterson share with their students is intimate, powerful and profound. It is life changing.
The clinical program offers students an opportunity to learn Micheal Moore’s Clinical system from Ginger, a first generation student in the lineage of Micheal Moore’s teachings. Ginger’s teaching is generous and a combination of her own intuitive method with Micheal's more formulaic process. Herbal medicine is not a one size fits all situation. Ginger teaches how to work with the individual and their particular needs using both methods and demonstrates this in class with live consultations."
-Alex Manley, Herbal Foundations graduate 2022 & Herbalist Clinical Theater student 2023
