TXA note from Ginger:
Sonoran desert ethnobotanist Gary Paul Nabhan describes the impact of this plant with just the title of one of his books: The Desert Smells Like Rain. Known by so many names -- chaparral, creosote bush, gobernadora, hediondilla-- this plant is intensely aromatic and the scent of its volatile oils is even more pronounced when you add some precipitation. Anyone who has travelled through chaparral covered land after rain or snow can tell you: the whole desert smells of chaparral.
